Stockholm World Water Week 2018

378 organizations, 238 Sessions, 3339 Participants, 135 Countries, 15 Themes

This year, once more, the SWP and its members had a strong presence at the Stockholm World Water Week 2018. It was not only due to the interactive and dynamic events at the booth, but also due to the participation in various sessions and side events.

The week started with a Kick-Off Dinner for the 16 participating SWP Members. 8 SWP members contributed to a lively atmosphere at the SWP Booth with their varied presentations. The topics were centered around youth, entrepreneurship and Blue Peace. The booth was officially opened by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Swiss Embassy in Sweden and the SWP on Monday evening. The daily presentations ranged from an inter-generational dialogue on water and peace, to the launch of publications and tools on safe water, to presenting specific initiatives and integrating the youth (Start-Ups for Young Water Solutions and the presence of the Swiss Junior Water Prize).

The stand served as a “Swiss Hub” allowing space for networking, meetings and strengthening the promotion of the SWP members knowhow.

Besides the dynamic and well visited booth, the SWP co-organized a Dinner-Discussion on Water and Peace with the Embassy with ministers from different regions.  Further, the SWP co-convened 2 sessions at the conference involving a total of 9 SWP members.

The first session addressed challenges to unlock financing for Nature Based Solutions for Water (NbSW) and the second session was a market place showing 5 smart approaches of NbSW that contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction.

The SWP members were also published in the official daily newspaper of the conference “Water Front” on Wednesday 29th August 2018, p.3 and video recorded by the Stockholm International Water Institute SIWI (Links: https://vimeo.com/287040558 ; https://vimeo.com/287036496)

The Swiss Junior Water Prize Finalist Laura Bauer took part in the international finals for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize. Impressions can be seen here.

Overall, the strong SWP presence contributed to the promotion of SWP members’ expertise and the exposure of the Swiss high quality solutions.
