South Sudan: Integrated Solutions for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Limited access to safe water points is a common problem for many communities in South Sudan. In Central Equatorial State HEKS supports the local partner organization SSUHA (South Sudan Health Association) who offers integrated solutions for water, sanitation and hygiene in isolated rural villages. The drilling of boreholes and the digging of shallow wells is paralleled by improving hygiene practices through promotion of pit latrines and hand washing facilities. Intensive community participation aims for long-term sustainability. Water committees, hygiene promoters and pump mechanics are trained and provided with necessary tools. This project is implemented under the umbrella of the Swiss Water & Sanitation NGO Consortium. Read more
