FAIRMED is a development organisation that has been instrumental since 1959 in supporting neglected people who are prone to disease and poverty in Africa and Asia. We operate from Bern and work with local partners on site. At the core of our work is the focus on neglected tropical diseases such as Leprosy and Buruli ulcer, people with disabilities and health care for marginalised communities. Projects are developed together with the focus population and we are linked to government authorities and other organisations alike in the countries where FAIRMED is active. FAIRMED is concerned that marginalised people can claim their basic right on health care irrespective of gender, social or political affiliation. In the field, FAIRMED sets up water supply and sanitation schemes which in turn support the improvement of community health and health care provision.
