Centre for Hydrogeology and Geothermics

Member image

The Centre for Hydrogeology and Geothermics (CHYN) is one of Europe’s leading institutes for research and teaching on groundwater with about 50 collaborators. The CHYN offers the only Master programme in this field in Switzerland. Groundwater is a key water resource especially in arid countries and its importance will likely increase in the future with the expected higher climate variability. The contribution of groundwater to alleviate humanitarian crises and promote long-term sustainable development are important topics of the institute. The CHYN carries out numerous research projects on groundwater quantity and quality in different regions of the world, develops new tools to evaluate and quantify groundwater resources, and offers continuing education courses on groundwater and development.
