The sunlight pump is a highly efficient portable solar water pump for small-scale irrigation and domestic water supply. It is an affordable technology that combines environment-friendliness and low maintenance costs with income, productivity and labour-saving benefits. The sunlight pump was developed by professors and students from the Berne University of Applied Sciences in Biel.

The population in this volcanic region is very poor and access to safe drinking water limited. The project builds two piped water supply systems for 150 households, including irrigation of 20 ha with 150 sprinklers. The farmers will be trained on ecological agriculture and good irrigation practices.
The project targets water and sanitation projects in around 160 health centres and 10 Hospitals in the area. Target population 2.5 million people. Investment approx 8 Mio USD mainly for water supply.
Since 2011, Swiss Fresh Water has been running a successful pilot project with 12 machines in Senegal. Currently, SFW is scaling up its operations with the support of local partners.
